How do we ensure that people receive high-quality care that leads to real improvements?

There have been major advances in treatments for child and adolescent mental health problems, as well as prevention and evaluation strategies. “Evidence-based care” refers to treatments and other care strategies (e.g. prevention, evaluation, monitoring) that have been shown to work in rigorous scientific studies. The challenge that we face is ensuring that evidence-based care is available in communities for children and families, and that training is available for professionals in evidence-based approaches. Systematic monitoring of the outcomes of care is also important for adjusting treatment strategies when an initial treatment plan does not yield strong improvements for our patients. Hear our discussion of this important question.
